miniBIOMAN 2019: Design of Experiments for Biomanufacturing

June 11, 12, & 13 2019
Hosted By:

  1.

CONFERENCE AGENDA

  1. Design of experiments (DOE) is a system that optimizes a process through the methodical varying of key parameters and a formalized statistical approach to analyzing, interpreting, and applying the results. DoE is designed to make any process more robust and minimize variability from external sources. A crucial tool during process development, DoE can be applied when screening for critical process parameters and when working towards Six Sigma goals.
  2.
  3. This mini-BIOMAN hands-on workshop builds upon the statistical concepts required for DOE, including hypothesis testing, confidence intervals, and statistical models. Workshop participants will apply DoE methods using JMP statistical software during hands-on laboratory activities. Activities will include an introduction to JMP statistical software, hypothesis testing, full factorial design, and screening designs with DoE blocking. Participants will analyze data they collect from basic laboratory experiments involving volume measurement and cell lysis. This workshop will incorporate presentations from industry professionals in Southern California’s biotech hub and an industry site tour.
  4.
  5. At the conclusion of the mini-BIOMAN, participants will have a comprehensive, ready-to-insert curriculum module to utilize in their own classrooms. Curricular materials include PowerPoint slides and links to helpful resources and references as well as hands on activities. Breakfast and lunch will be provided each day of the conference, and transportation to off-site venues is included. Participation in all three days of the workshop is required.

* Travel stipends are available for out-of-town participants. *
